Taipei City Councilor Withdraws from Race After DUI|陷酒駕風波 童仲彥宣布退出巿議員選舉

Independent Taipei City Councilor Tung Chung-yen crashed his car while driving drunk on Aug. 11. On Aug. 13, he announced that he was the worst role model and would withdraw from the year-end Taipei City councilor elections, to take responsibility.


Because I drove under the influence, I again apologize to society and everyone. I'm sorry. I should take responsibility. I am announcing that I am withdrawing from the city council elections at the end of the year. I was wrong. I did something bad. I brought trouble to myself and I should take advantage of the opportunity to give my seat to someone who wants to run.

At 2 a.m. on the 11th, Tung lost control of his car inside Keelung's Guanghua Tunnel and caused a four-car accident. Police found his breath alcohol level to be over the legal limit and arrested him for endangering public safety. He was released without bail after interrogations. Tung said he apologizes to everyone and will withdraw from the year-end city council elections. He also said he will continue to serve the people well for the remainder of his term.
