If you have the habit of popping painkillers, beware! According to the latest statistics from the Taiwan Drug Relief Foundation, Ibuprofen, a non-steroid anti-inflammatory ingredient, has moved up onto the list of medicines that could potentially harm the users. Ibuprofen is a common ingredient in painkillers sold in Japan, such as EVE.

Many Taiwanese tourists tend to purchase local merchandises while traveling in Japan. Other than consumer electronics, many tourists often buy local medicines in bulk, such as cold remedies, stomach medicines, painkillers, and eye drops.

I often buy Alinamin and Chondroitin, as well as painkillers and eye drops.

However, the public must be aware of the danger of taking medication without consulting with professional pharmacists. According to the latest statistics from the Taiwan Drug Relief Foundation, a number of medicines made the list of dubious drugs. The top three on the list are Zyloprim, a medication or lowering blood uric acid levels, anti-seizure medication Dilantin and carbamazepine. It's worth noting that Ibuprofen, a non-steroid anti-inflammatory, has gradually moved onto the list for the application for help from drug relief in the past 3 years. It's number 7 on this year's list, up from no. 9 from last year. Ibuprofen is the main ingredient in many types of painkillers that the travelers tend to buy in Japan, such as EVE.

Those who suffer from gastroesophageal reflex or ulcer tend to take EVE. But it could trigger symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Because the medication contains elements that affect our gastric mucosa.

The foundation's statistics also showed that, there have been a total of 3,192 applications for compensation for drug-induced injuries since 1999, of which 58.19 percent, or 1,720 applicants were compensated for a total of NT$ 462 million. Pharmacists have reminded the public to obey the Drug Injury Relief Act. If one intends to apply for compensation, the usage of the drug needs to follow the three main rules of: using the drug for its indicated purpose, using legal drugs and a drug-induced injury has occurred. Hence, for people who did not consult with doctors before using prescribed drugs, or for using drugs purchased in other countries, they will not be eligible for compensation.
