Japan has been one of the top destination for Taiwanese travelers, and now there will be 7 direct flights from Taichung International Airport to Tokyo Japan per week, starting today. So far, over 90 percent of the seats have been preordered, whereas all the weekend tickets have been booked. Taichung City Mayor Lin Chia-lung recently joined the public to take the direct flight to Japan. Scholars said that the new flight will help boost Taiwan's tourism. On the other hand, Taichung's airport needs to work on overcoming the limitation imposed by the curfew.
Many passengers at the airport are waiting to take the direct flight from Taichung to Tokyo, Japan. Taichung City Mayor Lin Chia-lung, who stands among the passengers, said that the new flight will help promote Taichung tourism to the people in Japan and will hopefully reduce the deficit between the number of travelers coming to Taiwan and those going to Japan.
I believe the new direct flight added from central Taiwan and Tokyo will help boost the number of tourists traveling between Taiwan and Japan. It will also reduce the deficit between the number of people coming to Taiwan and those going to Japan.
(This new flight) greatly facilitates our traveling. It takes only 2-3 hours to fly to Japan. In the past, especially weekends or national holidays, we had to suffer through traffic to Taoyuan International Airport.
According to the statistics from Taichung City's Tourism Bureau, the total number of Japanese tourists coming from Japan to Taiwan was 1.89 million last year. However, those who went the other way to Japan amounted to 4.56 million. The new direct flight from Taichung to Japan will operate 7 days a week in hopes to facilitate the travel from Taichung to Japan. However, some scholars believe that Taicung International Airport still need to find ways to circumvent its curfew to further boost the number of passengers traveling through.
In the past, the ratio between Taiwanese tourists going to Japan and Japanese tourists coming to Taiwan was roughly 7:3. I believe we should put strategies in place to increase the number of tourists coming to Taiwan in order to boost the revenues for our local tourism industry.
The scholar also pointed out that Taichung airport is limited by its curfew, which prevented bigger airplanes to take off and land. On the other hand, the new direct flight is anticipated to alleviate the pressure of Taoyuan International Airport and help boost local tourism.
