The much anticipated Michelin Guide -Taipei, is out. But foodies who love Tainan cuisine were disappointed that Tainan restaurants weren't included. But Tainan government officials say as long as the public loves Tainan food, that's as good as gold. The thinly-sliced, body-temperature piece of beef that is then ladled over with hot soup is a Tainan street food cuisine known far and wide. Locals here can find this Tainan beef noodle soup on any corner road. Tainan is a food capital, but the 110 restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide Taipei includes no Tainan eateries. This has left some feeling regretful. Snacks are tasty. A lot of friends come to Tainan just to eat. (Do you feel that not being selected by Michelin is a pity?) A real pity. (Michelin) probably never came to Tainan to eat. It is very regretful because Tainan food is known worldwide. The public support for Tainan cuisine has added to the discussion of Michelin's rating this time. Tainan City's Tourism Bureau Chief Wang Shih-su says the picks this time were only based on regions, not a nationwide selection. There should be no surprise. Tainan is a food capital. Its responsibility on the matter is to make delicious food that everyone will love. If Michelin comes, evaluates and says our restaurants are worth tasting for the world, of course we would be very happy. But frankly, we look at customers every day as they finish (their meal) and leave satisfied. For us, this also touches us very much and makes us happy. Although Tainan cuisine has not been given the Michelin touch, locals say it is good enough for them to have the seal of approval from the rest of the nation.
