Shanghai REP. reiterates 1992 Consensus on City Forum / 雙城論壇致詞 沙海林談一中.九二共識　　　　　　　　　　

At the Twin City Forum held on the morning of August 23, Sha Hai-lin, the representative of Shanghai Mayor, reiterated that the 1992 consensus has been the basis for peaceful development across the Taiwan Strait. He called on the Tsai Administration to face the fact that the current state of cross-Strait relations was due to evident reasons. Commenting on Sha's remarks, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-Je said that Sha had messages that he must deliver due to political reality. Sha Hai-Lin was at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park on his second day in Taipei. Protesters still rallied everywhere he went. ==PROTESTERS== Sha Hai-Lin, go back to China! He spoke about the 1992 Consensus as the head of Shanghai's United Front Work Department at the Twin City Forum. ==SHA HAI-LIN, Representative of Shanghai Mayor== Over the past 8 years, the peaceful development of cross-strait relations was built on the political basis of the 1992 Consensus. Due to evident reasons, there appears to be an undesirable situation across the Taiwan Strait. Sha is the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Taiwan since the DPP took office on May 20. Maintaining a strong stance on the One-China principle, Sha stressed that exchanges between the two cities were not made by cities of different countries. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-Je said that he understood China's political stance, but he also hoped that China could also understand Taiwan's stance on democracy and freedom. ==KO WEN-JE, Taipei City Mayor== Given his position, I understand that he must deliver certain messages.
