National Freeway No. 5 almost always experiences traffic jams on weekends and holidays. To improve the situation around the periphery of Jiaoxi District's Toucheng Interchange, the Freeway Bureau drew up a plan to build additional ramps to disperse traffic. The ramps officially opened recently, after over two years of construction.

On weekends and holidays, congestion on National Freeway No. 5 spills over to Jiaoxi District's Toucheng Interchange, Provincial Highways No. 2 and 9 and their access roads. The Freeway Bureau's new ramps for the Toucheng Interchange, which took over two years to build, officially opened to traffic on the 28th.

This ramp will help improve local traffic conditions in Jiaoxi District. The original ramp route was better, because it made a 180-degree turn out.

The south exit ramp connects to Shagang Road, while the north entrance ramp is part of the Xueshan Tunnel system. The bureau hopes the ramps will improve traffic flow around the interchange. The first major challenge will take place next month, when people head home to vote in the local elections.

If you want to go by high speed rail, you have to get your ticket ahead of time. There's no way you can get a ticket on the day of travel.

The high speed rail has added 58 trains to its schedule between Nov. 23, which is the day before the election, and Nov. 26. Taiwan Railways currently has no plans to follow suit.
