As the long weekend ends, be ready for some wet weather as Super Typhoon Trami approaches. Trami is currently located 800 kilometers to the southeast of Taiwan, but Taitung is already experiencing powerful waves. Green Island and Orchid Island has therefore suspended ferry services starting at noon on Sept. 25 until Sept. 28. Trami is not expected to directly impact Taiwan, but Taiwan will still feel its influence, especially between Sept. 28 and Sept. 30.
Super Typhoon Trami has a sturdy structure, and its eye can be seen clearly. It is the 24th tropical storm of the year. The Central Weather Bureau says Trami's path is variable, although it is generally agreed the typhoon will move in a northerly direction. Although the chances of Trami directly impacting Taiwan are low, its periphery is still expected to bring rain to Taiwan.
According to current model predictions in various countries and our own analysis, the probability of it moving from east to north is higher. However, we don't know how close it will come to us while it is traveling north, and we have to wait and see the Pacific high pressure systems and even the motive force of the northern trough line. We have to wait and see.
The Central Weather Bureau predicts Trami's path may pass over the waters off of Taiwan's east coast on the way to Japan. The time when it will be closest to Taiwan will be Sept. 28 to Sept. 30. Northern and eastern Taiwan will experience rain, while the central and southern regions will see intermittent showers. Although Trami is currently located 800 kilometers to the southeast of Taiwan, Taitung is already experiencing powerful waves. Green Island and Orchid Island added ferry services to bring tourists back to the mainland. However, some tourists insisted on going to Green Island despite the threat of the typhoon.
Ferry services may be suspended for several days because of the typhoon. Are you still planning on going there? I still want to go. Why? Because we already made plans to go diving around Green Island.
On the morning of Sept. 25, 728 tourists and 280 tourists were ferried back to Taitung from Green Island and Orchid Island, respectively. Ferry services were suspended between noon on Sept. 25 and Sept. 28.
