Nauru Attempted to Silence China in Pacific Islands Forum|中國代表團退席論壇 諾魯總統批態度傲慢

Nauru, one of Taiwan's diplomatic allies, hosts this year's Pacific Islands Forum, but had ended up heightening tensions with China. In the forum, Nauru's President had rejected to let the Chinese Delegation to speak out of turn, leading Chinese delegation to leave the forum in protest. Nauru held a press conference and criticized China for being arrogant, and called them a bully. Meanwhile, in response to China recently poaching Taiwan's allies, several U.S. senators together proposed the Taipei Act in hopes to help prevent other countries to break ties with Taiwan. The 2018 Pacific Islands Forum is hosted by Nauru, one of Taiwan's diplomatic allies. However, there have been a number of confrontations between the hosting nation and the Chinese delegation that took part as a non-member. The first incident took place before the forum started, when a Nauro official refused to stamp the diplomatic passports of Chinese officials. Later on during the forum, Nauru's President Baron Waqa refused to let the Chinese delegation head address the meeting out of turn. In a subsequent press conference, Waqa condemned the delegation over their attitude. Maybe because he was from a big country that he wanted to bully us. The Chinese foreign ministry responded to the incident and said that Nauro violated forum regulations and staged a bad farce on purpose. The ministry calls on the island nation to recognize the One-China policy. Any country who supports the separation of China and Taiwan, or Taiwan independence won't get their way. We call on a small number of nations, such as Nauru, to understand the global and historical trend and rectify their mistakes. Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu also took part in the forum, where he announced that Taiwan will invest US$ 2 million for Nauru's medical fund. Nauru's latest act against China is seen as support for Taiwan, however, other member countries have responded by saying they will boycott the forum, showing China's increasing influence in the Pacific region. In light of China frequently poaching Taiwan's diplomatic allies, four U.S. senators together proposed "The Taipei Act" in hopes to help with Taiwan's diplomatic effort. I think the United States have maintained their stance. We would like to express gratitude to the senators for showing their friendship to Taiwan. The Taipei Act was proposed by Republican Senator Cory Gardner and Marco Rubio, as well as Democratic Senator Ed Markey and Bob Menendez. The purpose of the act is to help Taiwan counteract the increasing influence of China. The act would give the right to downgrade assistance or relations with any country that acts in ways that affect Taiwan's interests.
