Did you remember to bring your umbrella? Due to the recent southwesterly air flow and the nearby convective cloud systems, rain is probable all over the country, with heavy or torrential rain likely to occur in the afternoon. The Central Weather Bureau says this kind of unstable weather will continue for one week.
The sun is shining brightly, but this will soon change. Due to the southwest air flow and convective cloud system, heavy or torrential rain is likely islandwide in the afternoon.
The low pressure belt will remain around Taiwan in the next week. Starting the day after tomorrow, the belt will slowly move north over Taiwan. We expect unstable weather for the next week.
The Central Weather Bureau says mornings when it doesn't rain will be very humid and temperatures will be in the 32-35 degree range. In the afternoon, torrential rain or brief rainstorms are likely. The bureau has already issued heavy rain warnings for Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung. Flashflood advisories have also been issued for low-lying areas.
The amount of rainfall per hour isn't actually that much, but the amount of rainfall per 10 minutes can reach 20-30 millimeters. This amounts to over 100 millimeter a day. As rainfall is concentrated in 10- to 20-minute periods, urban areas or areas without adequate drainage networks may experience flooding.
The bureau says Typhoon Soulik and Severe Tropical Storm Cimaron are headed toward Japan and South Korea on the 19th and 20th, respectively, and won't have a direct impact on Taiwan. However, the low-pressure system and development of convective cloud systems in the afternoon may cause unstable weather in Taiwan for up to a week.
