If you have family members with high blood pressure, beware! The Food and Drug Administration recently announced to recall four types of hypertension medications, totaling over 20 million tablets, as they might contain carcinogens. It is advised that hypertension patients should return to hospitals to change their prescriptions if necessary.

In July, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found N-nitrosodimethylamine, a carcinogen in six types of hypertension medications from China. The FDA announced that four other types of medication contain carcinogens.

We have decided to recall the four types of hypertension medication. They are all manufactured with the raw material imported from Zhuhai Rundu Pharma.

The latest problem is found in the medications manufactured by Taiwan's Standard Chem&Pharm Co, LTD, with raw material imported from the China-based Zhuhai Rundu Pharma. The medications include 51 batches of Valsart Film coated tablets 160mg, Valsart Film coated tablets 80mg, Asartan F.C. Tablets 5/80mg, and Valsart-H 80/12.5mg, 49 of the 51 batches have been dispatched, and a total of 24.21 million tablets will be recalled from the shelves immediately.

These medications are aimed at hypertension patients, therefore we call on the patients not to stop their medication, because doing so might cause more harm than the potential carcinogenic effect.

N-nitrosodimethylamine has been found to be carcinogenic to animals. To be safe, despite there is an absence of evidence for similar effects on humans, the FDA has ordered to recall these four types of medication. The FDA has also called on the patients not to abruptly stop using these medications since it might cause greater harm than good, and instead seek doctors' advice for other replacement drugs.
