CWB Providing Weekly Green Energy Forecasts|氣象局"綠能預報" 可預估3-7天發電量

The government is promoting different forms of green energy like solar power and offshore wind power, but renewable energy only accounts for 4.5 percent of the energy generated in Taiwan. Last year, the Central Weather Bureau began working with the Bureau of Energy to provide simple power generation forecasts.

According to the Meteorological Information-Based Green Energy Operations Center website, wind turbines along the coast of Changhua produced 1,000 watts per hour on average in February. The center was established by the Central Weather Bureau and Bureau of Energy to provide solar and wind power data from the last three years. Per big data analysis, Yunlin, Chiayi and in particular Tainan are the best locations for solar power development on Taiwan proper. The best locations for wind power development, meanwhile, are central Taiwan and southern Taiwan's offshore areas.

Wind energy reserves in the Taiwan Strait are actually very high due to the northeast monsoon, southwest air flow and geologically-affected currents. Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua's offshore areas, and the area off the southern coast of Eluanbi have high wind power potential.

As weather conditions are taken into account when choosing locations for power generation facilities, the Central Weather Bureau provides weather and high-altitude wind power data for 3- to 7-day green energy generation forecasts. This helps the government better allocate energy resources.

You are able to perform a general assessment of your wind power facility and get a rough but very quick estimate of how much power it will generate this year.

The Bureau of Energy also plans to use the weather data for offshore wind power generation forecasts and integrate weather data with sea condition and maritime data to lower operating costs.
