Heavy Rainfall Leads to Multiple Accidents|國道1號彰化段8車追撞 3人受傷送醫

The continuous heavy rainfall in the central and southern regions of Taiwan has caused a number of traffic accidents. On National Highway No.1, a truck spun out of control and led to an eight-vehicle collision that injured three people. On the other hand, two sisters in Yunlin County fell into the road drainage due to low visibility, causing one death.

A heavy truck spins out of control and hits the central safety island. The front end of the truck is stuck on the north bound lane, and the driver is no longer on site. Due to the poor visibility, the accident has involved a total of eight vehicles.

I was driving on the inside lane at the time of the accident. There was no light or any warning sign. Under such dim conditions, it's nearly impossible to see anything.

Fear still lingers among the drivers involved in the accidents. Three were injured and sent to the hospital. Fortunately, no one was in critical condition. The accident took place at around 4am in the morning on the southbound Changhua section of National Highway No.1. The truck first hit the inside guard rail, and crossed over to the opposite northbound section, and three vehicles driving southbound couldn't evade in time and hit the truck. The fallen objects obstructed northbound vehicles and caused a serial crash of four vehicles.

The tire of a small vehicle flew out after it tumbled in the collision. The tire ended up stuck inside the breaking system of the larger truck, and now the truck is stuck on site.

On the other hand, the heavy rain has continued in Yunlin County. Two sisters in Yunlin's Huwei Township went out on their bike to search for their father in the field. The water level has risen above the ground level, making potholes invisible, and the sisters fell into a ditch.

(The water level has risen above ground?) Yes. The road surface isn't visible, especially in the area stretching from here to that tree. I couldn't even ride my bike through here, I had to turn back.

Despite rushing the two sisters to the local hospital, the younger sister could not be rescued. The police said the suspected reason for the accident was the lack of visibility on the road causing difficulty in distinguishing between the actual road and drainage, and has advised the public to pay extra attention to the road surface during heavy rainfalls.
