The water supply at Shimen Reservoir is currently somewhat tight, forcing the water play areas of parks in Taoyuan City to postpone their openings. They say, they will have to wait until the water situation stabilizes, and then make an assessment before opening.
Water play areas in public parks are popular in the summer. However, in Taoyuan City, several have signs saying their openings have been postponed due to the tight water situation at Shimen Reservoir, which supplies the city.
I don't know why they haven't opened yet this year. Parents bring their children here to play.
Water play areas open in the summer to allow people to play in water and cool off. Taoyuan City's Civil Affairs Office says the water situation is not good this year, and four parks with water play areas, Minzu, Yangming, Jianguo and Yongkang, have postponed their openings. This will allow the city to save around 1,000 tons of water per month. The city will reassess the situation once the water supply stabilizes.
This year, Shimen Reservoir's water supply situation is less than ideal. Water play areas require a lot of water, and we are postponing the opening because we need to conserve water.
Shimen Reservoir had signaled "slightly tight on water storage levels" in the abundant water season, which is rare. Though in recent weeks, the water level at Shimen Reservoir has increased slightly, it's still not enough to relieve the drought. The Northern Region Water Resources Office urges people to conserve water. It is optimistic that the situation will improve shortly.
It began raining continuously starting on June 17. The reservoir's water level rose by around 3.6 meters. The water volume also rose from 58 million tons to the current 74 million tons.
The office adds the abundant water season has already begun, and the rainfall is expected to increase. The rising water level shows the correct decisions were made. When the water level is low, the flood storage capacity increases.
