The Kuomintang's candidate for Kaohsiung City mayor, Han Kuo-yu, has hit the campaign trail and is holding campaign rallies. In his aid, Taichung City Mayor candidate Lu Shiow-yen ,KMT Vice Chair Hau Lung-bin and Legislator Chen Yi-ming joint her side, and together, call for an end to Kaohsiung's air pollution problem, and to change the Mayor. Meanwhile, the Democratic Progressive Party's Kaohsiung City mayor candidate, Chen Chi-mai, also focused on air pollution, saying he is going to plan a pollution reduction timetable.
Kuomintang Kaohsiung City mayor candidate Han Kuo-yu, Taichung City Mayor candidate Lu Shiow-yen, KMT Vice Chair Hau Lung-bin and Legislator Chen Yi-ming visit a small eatery in Kaohsiung's Dalinpu. As the area is infamous for its terrible air quality, the four made a show of ordering pork blood soup, which is supposed to clean the lungs.
Chou Hsi-wei came yesterday. Today, we have Vice Chair Hau Lung-bin and Mayor Lu Shiow-yen. Many other people will be addressing Kaohsiung's problems in coming days. I think this is a really good thing.
Taichung and Kaohsiung face the same problem, which is severe air pollution. Both cities have suffered at the hands of the Democratic Progressive Party's imprudent energy policies.
Taichung has its own air pollution problems, and Han and Lu want to join forces and fight the problem together. Hau, a former Environmental Protection Administration minister, recently said he would propose strategies for improving air quality. Han's opponent in Kaohsiung, the Democratic Progressive Party's Chen Chi-mai, already visited with locals and also proposed strategies to combat air pollution all over the city.
With regards to emission equipment and indoor and outdoor storage, we hope China Steel and Taiwan Power can set emission reduction timetables.
Air pollution is one of Kaohsiung's worst problems and the DPP, which has controlled the city since the 1990s, has not been able to do anything about it. Chen says he is facing the problem head on and working on a pollution reduction timetable.
