The results of this year's Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students exam are out. This year, there were 230,000 test takers, and 1,127 received "A" scores in the five subjects and the top score on the essay. Meanwhile, math scores were high as this was the first year where those in the "needs to be strengthened" category was under 30 percent.

Students sit in front of computers to look up their Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students exam scores. Many had to try several times due to the heavy traffic.

I got an "A" on the natural science exam, and "A++" in all the other subjects (score of five on the essay). I didn't expect such good results based on the practice exams.

Some students tried to calculate their own scores beforehand to determine if they could get into their top choice of high schools.

My first choice is Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School. I compared my answers before the scores came out, so my expected result was the same as the real result, which was "5A++" (score of six on the essay).

Ministry of Education statistics show there were 17,619 students who received "A" scores on the five subject tests, including 1,127 who also received the top score of six on the writing assessment. They accounted for 0.5 percent of all test takers. Meanwhile, the number of students who received five "B" scores and a writing assessment score of four totaled 43,668. The subjects with the biggest score range remained English and mathematics. However, the "needs to be reinforced" rate for mathematics fell under 30 percent for the first time.

The number of people requiring "reinforcement" fell to under 30 percent. Our mathematics teachers need to be commended. As for the English test, the results were more or less the same as last year. Overall, the reinforcement rate is falling.

For the Chinese exam, those who answered 40 or more questions correctly received "A" scores. The social studies exam required at least 55 correct answers and the natural science exam required 46 correct answers to get "A" scores. Meanwhile, 40,000 people got a score of zero on the non-multiple choice portion of the mathematics exam, and 6,000 people got a score of zero for the writing assessment. Students will now begin choosing schools, and schools will announce the admissions results on July 10.
