President Tsai Ing-wen presided over an anti-aircraft defense drill at Chingchuangang Air Force Base on June 7. She was accompanied by Kingdom of eSwatini King Mswati III. Tsai said Taiwan will be safe as long as the military exists, and therefore the government will give the military its full support.
Enemy aircraft fire missiles at Chingchuangang Air Force Base during three waves of attacks. At the same time, ground troops also invade the base, and quickly capture its command center. The jets continue to provide covering fire at low altitudes to prevent Taiwan's military from responding. The military responds by air dropping supplies, as well as nearly 200 paratroopers from seven jets, onto the battlefield.
Meanwhile, military aircraft including Apache attack helicopters provide assistance to repel and overcome the enemy troops. The military was able to progressively encircle the occupied command center, with tanks providing coverage. Finally, special forces launched a sudden attack and successfully defeated the enemy to recapture the base. This drill was part of the Han Kuang No. 34 military exercises, and took place at 7 a.m. on June 7. President Tsai Ing-wen presided over the drill. She was accompanied by Kingdom of eSwatini King Mswati III. In her speech, the president mentioned Air Force pilot Wu Yan-ting, who tragically died when the F-16 he was piloting crashed on June 4. She also vowed to support the nation's troops.
We lost a young and outstanding Air Force pilot. His death in the line of duty is the nation's loss. As long as the military exists, Taiwan will exist. I will do all that I can to support our military.
Around 4,000 troops participated in this 50-minute drill at Chingchuangang Air Force Base, and there were also 1,500 pieces of equipment.
