The rainy season has not yet arrived this year. Wushantou Reservoir only has 16 million tons of water left. That means the first rice harvest of the year may be cut by 30 percent or more. The Shimen Reservoir is also at less than half of its capacity.
Zengwen Reservoir is currently at 6.4 percent capacity, which means no boat rides for tourists.
There's no more water, so there's no point in boarding the boats. All we can do is stand on the dock. It's totally dry. There's no water anywhere.
Rainy season has not yet arrived, and Zengwen is down to 28 million tons of water. Despite its own shortage of water, Zengwen may still have to supply water to Wushantou Reservoir, which is down to just 16 million tons. Without more water, the first rice harvest of the year may be reduced by one-third.
We are currently in the first rice season of the year. We flood the fields during the last stage of cultivation. The last two cycles of on-seven-off-seven will extend the water supply through May 24.
Northern Taiwan's Shimen Reservoir is at almost 50 percent capacity, but rocks and grass that are usually submerged started appearing earlier this month.
We're already in flood season, so there will be more and more rain. The Central Weather Bureau is forecasting a spell of rain later this week and another at the end of the month.
The Central Weather Bureau says there are currently no signs of southwestern monsoons. Miaoli, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Penghu are in the early stages of water shortage and the Water Resources Agency will meet to discuss water resource allocation and water conservation measures soon.
