Influenza cases occur year-round in Taiwan. Recently, a seven-year-old girl developed a fever and began coughing. She was diagnosed with influenza type B, and her condition improved after she began taking medication. However, she was still suffering from dizziness, fatigue and movement problems, and went back to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed her with influenza complicated by myocarditis, as well as fluid retention. They used drainage tubes to drain 1,500 cc of water.

She appeared to have already developed pericarditis, which caused blockages and shock. If you don't properly treat that, there could be unfortunate consequences.

Infants, pregnant women, senior citizens and people with poor immunity are at a higher risk of dying from severe complicated influenza. Many of the deaths are caused by pneumonia and myocarditis. Symptoms include chest pains and palpitations. Centers for Disease Control statistics show the public expense influenza vaccination rate for senior citizens last quarter was nearly 50 percent, while the 50 to 64 age group had the lowest rate at only 20 percent. The rate for children under the age of six was 41 to 58 percent, much lower than the target 70 percent. The CDC says getting the influenza vaccine is the best way to protect against influenza. Last quarter, there were 717 severe complicated influenza cases, including 114 deaths. Children under the age of six accounted for 24 of the cases and one death.
