China is extending its recruiting effort to Taiwanese teachers in vocational schools. Colleges in China's Fujian have recently hosted a group of Taiwanese instructors on a local tour. They also offered a number of job openings that cater to instructors with specialized skill sets and relevant experiences.
Taiwan has a lot of talent in cosmetics, tourism, restaurant management. There has been rumors that China is extending its recruiting effort, and its post-secondary education institutions are not just looking to hire Taiwanese professors, but also skilled instructors. Colleges in Fujian province are actively recruiting Taiwanese college instructors in hopes to fill their jobs openings.
Many instructors at professional colleges are working professionals in the field. For instance, most instructors in the department of interior design have worked in actual design firms. Therefore, Taiwanese instructors have plenty of field experience. This is something that's valued by Chinese colleges.
The increasing recruitment effort from China, which aimed at hiring more Taiwanese professors, is considered to have both positive and negative effects.
As Taiwan suffers from low birthrate, more and more colleges are closing down and instructors might lose their jobs. Taiwan no longer has the need to absorb all these teachers, therefore the talent exchange (with China) is considered positive. On the other hand, it is also a problem when more and more talents leave Taiwan and seek work elsewhere.
Academics have said that the low birthrate has led to a dwindling number of colleges and fewer positions for instructors. Therefore the growing need in China helps alleviate the crisis of instructors losing their jobs in Taiwan. On the other hand, the government should also put policies in place to avoid losing too many talents.
