Tsai Observes Military Exercise at Suao Base|蔡總統赴蘇澳 視導國軍快速應變操演

Coincidentally, President Tsai Ing-wen observed a military exercise at the Navy's Suao base on Apr. 13. This move became especially sensitive as it coincides with the news that China is likely to hold a military exercise next week.


This was the first time Tsai boarded a military ship as commander-in-chief since becoming president. The exercise tested the military's response capabilities and ability to defend the harbor, simulating an enemy special forces attack on the Port of Suao from sea and air. The Ministry of National Defense says this joint military exercise between the navy and air force was a routine training that aims to strengthen the military's ability to defend eastern and northeastern Taiwan.
