Low Water Reserve Level in Southern Taiwan|南部水情吃緊 曾文水庫蓄水率不到14%

We've seen alot less rain in Taiwan in recent years. As a result, the water reserve in Taiwan's biggest Zengwen Dam has fallen below 14 percent. The government is calling on the public to conserve water.
Looking down from the bridge over Zengwen Dam, one can see the cracked soil on the bottom. The volume of rainfall since last August has been quite low, calculated at about 50 percent of the average volume during this period, leading the dam's reserve level to drop significantly. And the recent effort of cloud seeding by the South Region Water Source Office yielded little result.
We will work with the Department of Irrigation and Engineering to delay the feeding season for the crop. We will also implement more rigorous water-saving measures, such as expanding the gaps between water feeds. So far, our calculation has shown that we have conserved around 9,000 million tons of water during agricultural use.
The Zengwen Dam's reservoir can contain 62.12 million cubic meters of water. The South Region Water Resource Office is working with other government agencies to avoid engaging in stage-3 water conversation measures. On the other hand, the Nanhua Dam has not shown significant water shortage.
Since the water reserve in Gaoping River is adequate, we will try to bring its water up to Tainan area to minimize the water usage of Nanhua Dam. We control the overflow from reservoir to limit the water usage.
The South Region Water Resource Office said that the situation is under control, but they still call on the public to reserve water usage.
