Ministry of the Interior statistics show Taiwan's divorce rate has been around 2.3 thousandths since 2013. In 2017, there were 54,000 divorces. March has been the most popular month to divorce during the past three years. It is estimated that there are over 210,000 primary and secondary students from divorced households. Meanwhile, the Child Welfare League Foundation has found that divorced parents often have disputes over their children, such as issues over visitation rights, childrearing expenses or parental child abduction. Around 30 percent of parents focus only on financial issues and separation rights and benefits. Overall, only 20 percent focus on the feelings of their children.
Around 77 percent of parents, they actually don't often ask us about the issue of their children's feelings. Children caught in the middle of divorces are like adults, as they are greatly impacted by the experience. Both parents can clearly explain the situation, and should refrain from threatening behavior.
Children may be traumatized by the changes in their parents' relationship, leading to resentment or unease or other moods. Parents are advised to pay more attention to the feelings of their children and ensure they are not affected by the emotional stress of their parents. Parents should also patiently accompany their children through this difficult stage in their lives.
