Some popular South Korean beauty products have been found to contain the heavy metal antimony. South Korea recently released a list of 13 tainted products. Two are from the popular brand AmorePacific which is sold in Taiwan. Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration has told stores to take them off the shelves. People who have bought them can also ask for a refund. Many Taiwanese tourists pick up beauty products when traveling in South Korea. Korean authorities recently discovered metalloid antimony in 13 beauty products and has asked manufacturers to issue a full recall. Two of the 13 products are sold in Taiwan. We have confirmed with AmorePacific's Taiwan agent that two of the company's products are being sold in Taiwan. Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration says the two products in question, a concealer and an eyebrow pencil, are both made by AmorePacific. A total of 241 concealers and 62 pencils were imported into Taiwan. Antimony is a naturally occurring metal that is not currently on the World Health Organization's list of known carcinogens. However, it is banned in cosmetics in several countries due to a long-term association with liver and heart damage. Antimony causes cardiac toxicity, arrhythmia, and liver and kidney damage in animals. AmorePacific has already apologized and says it will issue a full recall of products containing antimony. Taiwan's FDA has asked retailers to remove the two products from shelves and says consumers that have purchased the products can ask the company for a refund.
