The largest importer of fish pulp in Taiwan, was found guilty yesterday in a 2013 food scandal. The company's CEO was convicted of forgery and sentenced to 1 year in prison, while a business manager and a sales rep were sentenced to 2 and 8 months in prison, both of which can be commuted to fines. Staff at Wei Yuan Ltd Co revealed that the company changed the expiration dates of products it sold. CEO Chuang Jin-yong was found to have been selling flour that was two years out of date. He also sold low-grade, cheap fish pulp for high prices, with up to 250,000 kilograms having entered the market. Chuang claimed that eating expired goods didn't have any bad effects. The court felt that his attitude after the crimes was unrepentant and sentenced him for falsifying documents. However, the case can be appealed. TRANSLATED BY:CLARE LEAR
