CIVILIANS BEAR THE BRUNT OF ARMED CONFLICT|伊軍掃蕩IS 救援民團助摩蘇爾難民逃生

In the Middle East, 8 months has passed since US-backed Iraqi forces began fighting Islamic State militants in a bid to retake Mosul. But like in any armed conflict, the civilians have born the brunt of harm. Here is the front line in southern Mosul, Iraqi forces opened fire from the tank, while a volunteer rushed to rescue a little girl. Although Iraqi forces have regained control of most areas, some are still under control by Islamic State militants. IS often uses civilians as human shields, and snipers at corners would shoot residents who try to flee from Mosul. ==INJURED MOSUL CIVILIAN== We were walking towards the factory. We looked, there was nothing going on, we started to walk and suddenly there was shooting by snipers who were positioned on top of the hospital. There was shooting from the hospital and we were hit. There were about 200 civilians there. On June 10, IS militants launched attacks on Iraqi forces, 70 people were dead and injured. In turn, Iraqi forces shot and killed 24 IS terrorists. ==DAVE EUBANK Founder, Free Burma Rangers Relief Association== Today as they are fleeing, they are no getting shot at. Now they are not getting shot at. That's because the Iraqi army has pushed ISIS back. The U.S. backed Iraqi forces have been fighting IS and regained most of Mosul since the offensive began in October. Each side has dead and wounded persons over ten thousand. The number of refugees, according to authority, is between six hundred thousand and seven hundred thousand.
