GENERATOR TRIPPED AFTER TOWER COLLAPSE AT 1ST NUCLEAR POWER PLANT|豪雨沖倒電塔 核一廠2號機跳脫停機

As the north coast was pummeled by torrential rains, rock slides closed many segments of Provincial Highway 2 and an electricity transmission tower fell down on the hills near the Chinshan Nuclear Power Plant in New Taipei's Shimen District. The plant's second power generator automatically tripped as the power it produced could not be transmitted, and the generator remains shut down. The generator was scheduled to shut down for the annual outage on June 10th, and Taipower said that the generator may be decommissioned with no attempt to restart it. The swollen river broke the Huangxi Bridge in New Taipei's Jinshan District in half. Fallen electricity poles cut power to 900 residences in the area. At the nearby 1st Nuclear Power Plant, a transmission tower collapsed on the hillside and the plant's 2nd generator tripped automatically. Repairs cannot be conducted until the weather improves. ==LIN TE-FU Taipower Spokesperson== We need to see how long it will take to repair the transmission tower, and then evaluate (if the generator will be retired). Taipower said that the shutdown of the generator did not cause any problems with the power supply, as power usage was low in the cool weather.
