PINGTUNG FARMS DISCHARGE ANIMAL SEWAGE INTO WATERWAYS|屏縣擴大稽查萬丹畜牧廢水 7成違規

A recent government inspection in Pingtung found 19 out of 27 local animal farms in violation of waste discharge and other regulations, and among the 19, 2 worst offenders could face up to NT$ 20 million in fines. An inspector was collecting colored wastewater samples from the outlet. Pingtung County's Wandan Township is a place with concentrated animal husbandry. Many animal farm operators violate regulations by illegally discharging excrement wastewater. Local residents said that they are not to be tolerant any more. ==WANDAN RESIDENT== It stinks all the way to Shepi and Shekou. (Why so?) Excrement from cows and pigs along with wastewater were directed to ditch. In the past half month, Pingtung County Government has been criticized of ignoring serious pollution long made by animal husbandry. Pingtung Environmental Protection Bureau on April 16 enforced snap checks to 27 animal farms, and found 19 farms have violated relevant pollution regulations. One farm did not apply the permit for water control, and intentionally not using its wastewater reservoirs, the fine could be as high as NT$20 million. ==WU CHAN-PEI Pingtung County EPB== He did not apply for the permit. It is difficult for us to inspect if no one reports to us. The owner failed to apply and in fact he did not control wastewater properly. Therefore he is a double violator. Speaking with strict perspective, he has violated something much more serious than discharged wastewater. Fines will be issued to the other 17 violators. The Environmental Protection Bureau stated, they are making warnings to all operators in the animal husbandry. Pingtung Department of Agriculture will guide those violators on discharging wastewater.
