PRIVATE KINDERGARDENS TO RAISE FEES CITING COST INCREASES OF NEW LABOR LAW|一例一休衝擊 部分私立幼兒園喊漲

發布時間: 更新時間:
Four months after the 1 fixed 1 flex work week policy was implemented, Kindergartens, too, are feeling the impact, and many of them are clamoring for a tuition hike. It is now up to the local governments to deliberate whether they will give their permissions. After the new labor law amendment was implemented, it has impacted many industries, including the education industry. In Taipei and New Taipei cities, many private kindergartens have applied to local government education departments to adjust fees in August due to increased personnel costs. The news worries many parents. ==PARENT== The current tuition and miscellaneous fee is NT$15,000, and an extra monthly fee of 7,000. (Are you worried that they will increase the price?) Yes, because I'm about to have another baby. ==PARENT== In Taipei city, including the registration fee, the cost is about NT$20,000 per month. (What if they adjust the fee?) Then I'm afraid we won't be able to afford it. The National Federation of Teachers Unions found that not only in Taipei and New Taipei cities, but in Tainan too there were 50 or 60 private kindergardens which had applied to the local government to raise fees. Raises were in the region of ten percent. However the NFTU doubted that kindergarten teachers' wages had risen this much and it had had some complaints to this effect from kindergarten teachers. Thus it suspected that this was a ruse by kindergardens to raise fees. ==YEN CHIA-CHEN Vice Chairman, National Federation of Teachers Unions== In the past, employers don't usually compensate the employees for overtime work. Now that they begin to implement the new regulations, they had to hire more people to cover the overtime, meaning that there's an increase in labor cost. It has nothing to do with increasing the salary of the teachers. With calls from private kindergardens to raise fees, the Ministry of Education said that both private and public kindergardens were regulated by local government. The local government sets limits to increases, which will be reviewed by committee to check whether they are reasonable.
