20 TONS OF FAULTY PRODUCT, INCLUDING MARGARINE PULLED FROM SALE|黑心乳瑪琳 已下架20公噸 但總數量不明

Due to an inspection in Taoyuan, Far East Oil Mills Co. was suspected of having used expired products to manufacture margarine and other products. On Mar. 12, to trace the product flow, Taipei and New Taipei City Health departments investigated further. According to Food and Drug Administration statistics, nationally there are 20 tons of products taken out of the marketplace. The company apologised and say that they will accept refunds and returns. After ringing the bell, the inspectors pulled up the metal roll-door and started work at the Far East Oil Mills Co. shop in Taipei's Changan East Road. It is responsible for sales to both Taipeis, Yilan and Hualien. Taipei City Department of Health checked boxes of margarine and lard one by one, as well as taking a list of names of downstream businesses from the computer. There were 63 altogether. Inspector will check them all and there may be well-known bakers among them. ==WANG MING-LI Taipei City Government FDA Dept.== What products went to these 63 downstream businesses and if the expiry date is before Sept. 30 remains to be seen. We are sending inspectors to make sure that the products is removed from sale. New Taipei City FDA inspectors also started inspecttions over the weekend. On Mar. 12 they removed 865 kilos of products from a total of 62 businesses, of which 28 were breakfast shops, including Mei Er Mei and Fan Qie Wu; and from 15 other chain and convenience stores, as well as from 19 bakers. Far East Oil Mills came out publicly for the first time since the investigation and apologised for oversights in the production proces. It said it would accept customer returnsand emphasied that there were only 14 tons of expired ingredient which had been mistakenly used. ==HSIEH HSIEN-TEH Chair, Far East Oil Mills Co.== I apologise deeply to all levels of society and in fact there is just 10 tons of the product that has to be reclaime, that has a problem. According to FDA statistics, up to 4 pm on Sunday Mar. 12, nationally, 20 tons of product have been removed from the shelves. It urged the public to stop using any products dated with expiry between March 8 and Sept. 30, 2017 including the popular margarine.
