331 TRA STAFF PUNISHED FOR NEW YEAR'S 'WORK TO RULE'|"依法休假"未遞假單 台鐵懲處331員工

Three hundred and seventy-four Taiwan Railway Union members undertook a work to rule over the Chinese New Year. Three hundred and thirty-one of these who did not fill in forms to apply for leave have now been issued with punishment and over two-thirds have been given one major demerit. The union criticized this as pressuring the staff and called on the TRA to revoke the demerits and punishment records. Members of Taiwan Railways Union who undertook a 'work to rule' over the Lunar New Year holiday for four days, were punished by the Taiwan Railways Administration under the regulations for transport industry officials. TRA== Originally there were 374 who did not come to work, after review, 331 were punished. Staff who were punished include 90 who were absent for one day and were given a minor demerit, six absent for two days were given two minor demerits and 235 who were absent for more than two days were given one major demerit. However, the TRU has reported the TRA to the Ministry of Labor for improper behaviour saying that the new year work to rule was still under review and yet the TRA already announced punishments which amounted to a challenge by TRA to the government's labor law. ==WANG CHIEH Chair, TRU== Their actions are despicable, they are completely unwilling and disregarding the rules during the review period, just went ahead and announced punishments. They don't care about adjudication, how will they deal with the results if they are found to be in the wrong after their rule on absenteeism? The union urged the TRA not to use a big business mentality to persecute its staff. The TRA said any results clarifying the work to rule would not affect the punishments they have given out for absenteeism and if staff did not want to accept these, then they could appeal.
