Relocated students still affected by naphtha factory / 麥寮許厝童遷回校本部 尿檢數據不減反增　　　　　　　　　　

Last September, the entire student body of an elementary school in Yunlin was relocated due to the school's proximity to a major petrochemical plant. However, a follow-up study conducted by the Cheng Gong University recently revealed that TdGa levels in the student's urine samples actually increased after the relocation. Now parents are using this as evidence to move the students back to the school's original location. As the spring semester is starting in less than a week, experts scramble to discuss what to do. The Ciaotou Elementary School Syucuo Branch is only 900 meters away from the Formosa Plastics Corp's sixth naphtha cracker complex in Yunlin's Mailiao Township. Urine samples from 60 some students were tested higher TdGa values. Last September those students were relocated back to Ciaotou Elementary School, some parents said their children's urine samples showing higher values and therefore requested for returning back to Syucuo Branch.The Health Promotion Administration held a meeting and environmental protection groups said, the tests done by the National Cheng Kung University were imprecise and misleading. ==LIN FU-YUAN Chair Yunlin Caring Assn. for Art, Humanity Ecology== But the National Cheng Kung University was unable to explain the cause of the high values. The test result was not showing lower values. That means, the influence of the sixth naphtha cracker complex does exist. ==CHANG TZU-CHIEN Chair Yunlin Environmental Protection Union== Just shut off the pollution source and it's done. It's not a big deal. Why should people waste so many national and government resources to relieve this major pollution producer from responsibilities? The environmental protection groups believe, shutting down the sixth naphtha cracker complex is the only way to cut off the pollution source. Some student's parents want their kids to go back to Syucuo Branch and study. ==HSU HUNG-LIN Syucuo Branch Parent== What kind of association is TdGa and VCM in the air? If there is no problem, parents hope to have their kids back to Syucuo Branch. The Ciaotou Elementary School is to start on Feb. 13. The Health Promotion Administration stated, it's up to Yunlin County Government to decide whether or not to send those students back to Syucuo Branch.
