TAIPOWER AND CHANGHUA COUNTY GO GREEN|推綠能產業 台電砸2千億與彰縣府合作

Changhua County has set up offshore wind farm using its geographical advantage, it also has adequate sunshine for solar energy, and is considered to have the greatest green energy production capacity of any of Taiwan's cities and counties. Changhua county government and Taipower signed a letter of intent, for Taipower to invest NT$200 billion, into offshore wind power. However, environmental protection groups believed Taipower's plan may have a negative impact on marine organisms, and the low-frequency noise is more likely to change bird and fish migration habits. Changhua County Magistrate Wei Ming-ku signed a letter of intent to cooperate with Taipower in an effort to turn the county into the green capital of Taiwan. Taipower will make a NT$200 billion investment in the construction of a number of green energy projects in Changhua, because of its unique geographical advantages. ==WEI MING-KU Changhua County Magistrate== Our 50 kilometer offshore marine area is only 50 meters deep, so we have the conditions to develop the offshore area. Taiwan has 36 offshore wind farms, of which 21 are in Changhua, accounting for 60 percent of the country's such energy sources. Taipower will use the unique geographical conditions of Changhua, for the construction of two offshore wind projects. Changhua has the best potential for wind and sunshine. In the future it also intends to establish a total area of 134 hectares of solar photovoltaic systems in Changbin to increase generation capacity by 10 million kilowatts. ==CHU WEN-CHENG Taipower CEO== By 2025 we hope that we will have attained the goal of being nuclear power free and this wind farm is a key piece of that. There is also a lot of potential in Changhua for land based wind farms. Taipower said once the installation is completed, 20 percent of the country's electricity will be provided by green energy. It expects electricity generated to be up to 31 billion degrees per year, providing use to 870,000 households. ==CHEN CHU-TSAN Changhua Fishermens' Association Sec-Gen.== We fish with gill nets here and each trip we go about two to three kilometers out, so if the wind turbines are installed we fishermen will have to change where and how we fish.
