CHOI IGNORES MANDATORY SUMMONS FROM SPECIAL COMMITTEE|南韓國會聽證 崔順實以健康為由拒出席

On Dec. 7, high-level representatives from 8 major businesses appeared before a South Korean parliamentary special committee probing the corruption allegations against President Park Geun Hye . Today, the second day of this hearing will continue. However, the main suspect, Park's advisor, Choi Soon-sil refused to appear, citing health reasons. The committee chair then issued a mandatory summons. On Dec. 7, the chair of the South Korean parliamentary special committee Kim Sung-Tae requested 20 dark-suited personnel to hand envelopes with mandatory summons to witnesses to compel them to appear at the afternoon session of the hearing. Among them was the key suspect, Choi Soon-sil, who had refused the original summons on health grounds, citing a panic attack. Kim said that any witnesses still refusing would be held in contempt and punished. Choi is suspected of interfering in government affairs and major policy decisions as a non-public official, extorting money from large enterprises and forcing them to donate money to her foundation. On Dec. 7, Choi's daughter, sister and nephew all remained absent, citing poor health and only 13 of the 27 summoned attended.
