CPI HITS NEW HIGH IN EIGHT MONTHS, FOOD SURGES MOST|物價指數創8個月新高 肯德基宣布漲價

The government just released November's consumer price index, which grew by 1.97%, the biggest increase over the past eight months. Among other consumer goods, food prices have surged the most. At 6.42%, the figure is the highest in nearly eight years. Following the CPI release, fast food restaurant chain KFC announced a price adjustment of up to 12.5% for its products, which includes a 2 dollar hike for its egg tart and a 10 dollar increase for its burger. Affected by the rising food prices, the latest Consumer Price Index showed a year-on-year increase of 1.97%, a new high over the last eight months. Vegetable prices went up by 40% in November. Compared with the same period last year, an average household paid an extra of nearly NT$1,000 per month. Following the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics' CPI release, fast food restaurant chain KFC announced a price adjustment for its products. ==MEMBER OF PUBLIC== Everything keeps increasing in price, except our salary. After KFC's price adjustment, the price for its egg tart will increase by NT$2, while its burgers such as the Zinger Burger will cost consumers NT$10 more. The price for its combo meal will also go up by NT$5. In fact, McDonald's had already made the adjustment for its product prices, ranging from 4% to 7%, in November, but KFC did not follow suit back then. According to the DGBAS's latest CPI release, food and vegetable prices have gone up by 20% in the period between January and November, which is the largest increase over the last four years. Fruit prices have registered the largest increase of 20% over the last 24 years. As the minimum wage increases next year, the food industry is highly likely to increase prices as well.
