FIRE IN ART STUDIO WAREHOUSE KILLS AT LEAST 40|

In the United States, a warehouse in Oakland, California descended into chaos after a deadly fire engulfed the premises late on the night of Dec 3. At the time of the fire, many young people were attending an electronic music party on the second-floor. As the fire spread rapidly, many were trapped and killed in the fire. Authorities estimated over 40 deaths. The fire broke out around 11 pm on Friday at a warehouse known as "Oakland Ghostship". Around 50 to 100 young people were attending a party when the fire started, and many victims were trapped on the second floor and could not escape. ==SURVIVOR== I was dragging a big guy and trying to get him out, too, but there are so many things in the way, and the fire was too big. There was a lot of smoke, so in the end I had to let go. In daylight, the charred, burned down building was revealed. It was a shocking sight. Many victims are still unaccounted for, and the collapsed roof has made the rescue mission even harder. ==RAY KELLY, Alameda County sheriff's office spokesperson== There weren't many victims going to the hospital. People either made it out or they didn't make it out. The police are still investigating the cause of the fire. The interior of the warehouse was partitioned into artist studios. Some artists were even living here. There was no entrance except for a simple wooden staircase. Nor were there any smoke alarms or sprinklers. Pictures of the warehouse taken before the fire showed that the place was filled with furniture, mannequins, carpets and many flammable objects. Numerous blight complaints have been filed against the property. The party-goers on the second-story were essentially trapped in a dark maze with no way out. TRANSLATED BY：CHRISTINA LIU
