HUGE MUSLIM PROTEST AGAINST CHRISTIAN JAKARTA GOVERNOR|雅加達反"阿學"示威 逾二十萬穆斯林參加

Over 200,000 Muslims gathered on the streets of Indonesia's capital, Jakarta in protest on Dec 2. They demanded the ethnic Chinese and Christian governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama to step down, saying that he made insults on the Quran. The police have turned over the investigation to the prosecution, and the case will be submitted to the court for trial in a few weeks. Muslims rallied in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, in protest against the governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama. Over 22,000 police officers were deployed at the scene to maintain order. ==BANTEN PROVINCE PROTESTER == We insist that Purnama must be arrested. Other leaders such as Widodo needs to take a strong stance too. They have to be firm. If not, Widodo may the next to be protested. The ethnic Chinese and Christian Jakarta governor was poised to win a reelection next Feb until his opponents doctored a video clip of his campaign speech in a remote village and accused him of blasphemy. He became the enemy of hardline religious groups like the FPI. Over 100 people were injured in the street demonstrations last month, and Purnama's approval ratings dropped to the second place. Prosecutors are now investigating the incident and the case will be submitted to the court for trial in a few weeks. In the mean time, President Widodo has had several meetings with military and religious officials to prevent tensions from escalating.
