To bring Uber to heel, the Policy Research and Coordinating Committee under the Executive Yuan engaged the DPP caucus on October 31st in a discussion over an amendment bill to the High Way Act. The amendment will increase the maximum fine for automobile transportation operators from NT$150,000 to NT$25 million. In addition, violators will be suspended from operation. The amendment bill has been deemed the "Uber bill."
To force Uber to follow transportation industry regulations, the Executive Yuan and the DPP have reached a consensus to amend the Highway Act on October 31st. Once the amendment is passed, operators violating the regulations can be fined up to NT$25 million and be put out of business. In addition, the government will offer financial rewards to individuals reporting the violations.

Of course, this will affect Uber. We want to put Uber in the right direction. Even though we are now in an emerging shared economy, Uber still has to abide by the law; otherwise, it would be an unfair competition for the law-abiding taxi drivers.
The amendment bill is deemed as the "Uber Bill." The government stated that Uber should have registered under the category of automobile transportation industry but it registered as an information service provider. That is why the amendment was proposed, but some do not believe that it will solve the problem.

I think people would still prefer Uber. It's cheaper.

Uber

==民眾==
