COC PRESENTS 76 POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS TO PREMIER|與林揆座談 商總提76項建言創提案紀錄

Premier Lin Chuan and the Cabinet members attended a forum and talked with business leaders. General Chamber of Commerce Chairman Lai cheng-i presented 76 policy recommendations to Lin. The unprecedented high number of recommendations，showed that businesses have grown increasingly concerned with Taiwan's economy. Particularly, industry leaders urged the legislature to pass the amendment to the new Labor regulation and allow for more flexible work hours for different industries. While the legislature had a heated debate about the Labor Act Amendment review, industry leaders presented their policy recommendations to Premier Lin Chuan at a business leaders forum, urging the government to allow for more flexible work hours. ==LAI CHENG-I, General Chamber of Commerce Chairman== We hope the new labor law can be amended as soon as possible. We hope businesses will be given more flexibility in their work hours so that problems can be resolved. ==LIN CHUAN, Premier== Some business leaders think we favor the labor; however, labor groups think we favor industries, too. People inevitably have different opinions. We do our best to find the balance. The General Chamber of Commerce made a record total of 76 policy recommendations. Foreign investment in Taiwan declined to around NT$5 billion last year. That number is lower than the Philippines or Vietnam. Thus, the government should create more investment opportunities, rejuvenate the real estate market, and maintain electricity prices at the same level by activating the Fourth Nuclear Power plant. ==LAI CHENG-I, General Chamber of Commerce Chairman== Before we have a stable energy supply, the service years of the first two nuclear power plants should be extended. Moreover, the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant should be activated, so that electricity prices will not continue to surge due to a nuclear power shortage. Premier Lin said Taiwan must achieve energy transition because green energy is the future. Thus, the Electricity Act has to be amended. He also responded to the criticism that the Ministry of Finance presented two opposing stances on tax reduction policies within a day. ==LIN CHUAN, Premier== Inequalities between the taxation of Taiwanese citizens and foreigners have caused the issue of fake foreign investment. We need to look at things from a macro view. The problem was caused by the huge gap between the marginal tax rates of the business income tax and individual income tax. Recently, TSMC chairman Morris Chang criticized that the government is focusing too much on innovation. In response, Lin Chuan said innovation can help businesses increase the value added and create more jobs for Taiwan. The government will also help build new industries such as the solar energy and wind power industries.
