LGBT groups urge for same-sex marriage legalization / 性別團體記者會 籲速推同性婚姻合法化　　　　　　　　　　

On October 26, LGBT groups held a press and conference to urge legislators to legalize same-sex marriage as soon as possible. LGBT groups believe, by achieving legal recognition of same-sex marriage, they will not be second-class citizens at all. Shouting slogans, LGBT groups called on President Tsai Ing-wen and legislators to legalize same-sex marriage at a press conference held on October 26. LGBT people said they do not want to be treated as second-class citizens, hoping to achieve legal recognition of same-sex marriage. ==TSENG YEN-JUNG, Taiwan LGBT Family Rights Advocacy== From daily events to important events in life, and to death, these are all what same-sex couples will experience in their lives. Same-sex marriage law plays an important role on same-sex couples' parental rights. We really hope that the bill can be passed as soon as possible. Currently, there are 3 versions of bills on same-sex marriage. Most LGBT group members support the bill proposed by DPP Legislator Yu Mei-nu. She aims to amend the section on family of the Civil Code, changing marriage between a man and a woman into marriage between two people. Same-sex couples said they are moved by the legislators' support of same-sex marriage. ==CINDY, LGBT group member== When I heard the news that 57.5 percent of the legislators are in support of same-sex marriage, I was really moved. After marrying with my partner, this was the first time I felt that I am not a second-class citizen. Six of the seven new grand justices approved by the Legislative Yuan on October 25 take an open attitude towards same-sex marriage. LGBT groups hope that the grand justices will rule in favor of same-sex marriage and that amendments to the Civil Code will be successful. They also hope that Taiwan can become the first country in Asia to achieve marriage equality.
