Scholarships help poor students complete education / 北市認助基金會 助11萬清寒生安心就學　　　　　　　　　　

Many children hope to turn their life around through education, but sometimes they are not be able to do so because of their family conditions. There are actually many programs that are dedicated to help students mired in this situation. For example, the Foundation of Helping Underprivileged Students established by Taipei City's Department of Education in 1997 has provided sponsorships and scholarships for more than 110 thousand students over the past 20 years. 19-year-old Ke Bo-xuan had a happy life before his father's business went bankrupt and became mired in debt. His family had to move from places to places when he was in junior high. Luckily, his school helped him get a scholarship so that he could finish high school. Ke lived up to everybody's expectation for him. He graduated top of his class and got into a great university. ==KE BO-XUAN, Student== As someone who comes from an underprivileged family, I think that scholarship programs have given us hope because we can still feel discriminated against sometimes when people take pity on us. Taipei City's Department of Education established the Foundation of Helping Underprivileged Students in 1997 and has raised more than NT$300 million ever since. Each month, the foundation receives donations that have benefited more than 110,000 students. Hsieh Jung-kuei has made donations with a total of more than NT$ 1 million over the past 20 years. He said that nothing is more comforting than seeing children studying hard. ==HSIEH JUNG-KUEI Sponsor== After they receive help and achieve success in school, they come here and share their stories with us. I think that is really encouraging for the sponsors. Many children hope that education can help them turn their life around, but some of them are not able to concentrate on their study because of their family conditions. The foundation is calling upon the society to sponsor these children to help lift them out of poverty through education. TRANSLATED BY：LUKE CHIANG 19歲的柯博軒,原本生活在一個幸福美滿的家庭，但國中時，父親經商失敗，負債累累，全家還被迫搬家流離失所，所幸透過學校的介紹，及時申請獎學金補助度過學習困境，就讀成功高中的他，也不負眾望以全班第一名的成績畢業，上了好大學。 ==清寒學生 柯博軒== 我覺得雖然身為清寒學生 但我覺得像這種獎學金的幫助 帶給我們很大的溫暖 因為在這社會 常常受到看似憐憫的眼神 但其實是帶有鄙視的眼光 為了幫助清寒學子安心就學，台北市教育局1997年成立了"認助清寒學生基金會"，結合民間善心力量,從一開始募集到的認助基金500萬元，到現在已經累計超過3億元，每個月、每學期都會固定提撥給清寒學子生活費及學費，共有11萬多人次受惠. 認助超過20年，捐款上百萬的謝榮桂說，看著學生認真學習，就是最大的欣慰。 ==認助人 謝榮桂== 他們接受了幫助之後 然後他們有很好的結果的時候 他們會來這邊分享 我覺得對於認助者來說 是一個很大的一個鼓勵 許多孩子希望透過讀書翻身，卻可能因爲家裡經濟環境不好，無法專心讀書，因此基金會也呼籲社會各界一同加入愛心認助的行列，幫助孩子透過教育脫貧、翻轉人生。 記者 朱芷儀 謝其文 台北報導
