SIGHT IMPAIRED FIFTH GRADER WINS PRESIDENT EDUCATION AWARD|失明早產兒 鍾培汶獲總統教育獎

This year's President Education Award recipient is a fifth grader from Kaohsiung's Wuchuan Elementary School named Chung Pei-wen. Being born prematurely has caused visual impairment in both of her eyes. She was rejected by over 50 kindergartens when she was only three, however her mother didn't give up the chance for her to be educated. She found ways for her daughter to learn instruments, Taekwondo and even attend normal elementary school. Let's take a look at her story. Her fingers are dancing over the keyboard, the 12-year-old Chung Pei-wen is blind. She merely memorizes keyboard positions and scores. She is also good at playing flute, ukulele and clarinet. Pei-wen has lived with inconvenience, her mother wanted Pei-wen to study at regular school, just like other kids did. However, Pei-wen had been turned down by over 50 kindergartens. ==TU HUI-HSUAN, Chung Pei-wen's mother== First, they worry about something could go wrong. Second, they worry that they cannot handle the kid. They thought parents would say they left the kid to kindergarten, staff should be professional. Therefore, they did not dare to accept kids with inconvenience. We understand their worries. Pei-wen spent extra time learning braille, her academic grades are excellent. She also knows swimming and taekwondo. Her optimistic spirit earned her the honor of annual President Education Award. ==CHUNG PEI-WEN, 2016 President Education Award Recipient== (How does your mother encourage you?) She said, although I cannot see, but I still can achieve many things. ==TSAI CHANG-WEN, Wuchuan Elementary School Principal== Although she has mobility inconvenience, she may be keen in other things. I think her classmates are willing to accompany and assist her. Her smiling face shows positive and optimistic attitude. They thank everyone who has been supportive. Pei-wen surely knows how to return loves she had received. She had donated her hairs for the fourth time to the HOPE Foundation for Cancer Care.
