On Oct. 1, thousands of people in black gathered outside the parliament building in Poland to protest a bill that will virtually ban abortion completely. Protesters called on women to go on a strike on Oct. 3 and participate in demonstrations nationwide. In Warsaw, thousands of angry men and women gathered in front of the parliament to protest the "Stop Abortion" legislation, which is now under review by the parliament. Poland is a Catholic country and already has very stringent laws regarding abortion, which is only allowed in case of rape, incest, serious fetus deformation, or danger to the mother. The conservative ruling party, Law and Justice Party, proposed an even stricter legislation that will only allow abortion when the mother's life is threatened.
