On Sep. 25, over 60 organizations staged a demonstration in front of the Presidential Office against forced eviction. In recent years, various urban redevelopment projects have led to people being forcibly removed from their homes. Some have even accused the government of tearing down their houses when they were not home.

A hundred days of the new government. Forced eviction continues.
Over 60 anti-forced eviction organizations in Taiwan took to the Ketagalan Boulevard today in protest. One of the most striking cases is the Dapu incident in Miaoli. The government has promised to rebuild their residences at the same location, but it has been 3 years and no action has been taken. Just recently, the Kaohsiung Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market was partially demolished on Sep. 1 and residents will all be evicted in Oct. They joined the protest to voice their anger and frustration.

They tore down my house without any notification. My heart is in so much pain. I don't know what to do. The government has been so cruel to me.
Residents of Sec. 2 of Daguan Road in Banqiao were forcibly removed despite their protest. Their houses will be demolished on Oct 7. In Keelung, the government arbitrarily terminated the rental agreement with Gui-Mei Grocery without any consultations. Their house will be torn down on Oct 12. The owner lost her house as well as the livelihood she has depended on for 40 years. Her daughter made a tearful plea to the government.

We live in a remote place, and we're not bothering anyone. I hope they can give us a break and let us continue to rent the house so that my mother can retire in our old house.
Demonstrators stressed that they are protesting for justice. They believe that the government should settle disputes through negotiation instead of forced eviction, which is an abuse of power that tramples on housing justice.
