Typhoon Malakas has continued on its northeast track. Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung are out of the storm radius and at 2:30 this morning the land warning was lifted by the Central Weather Bureau. The marine warning will probably be lifted later this morning. The CWB said there will be unstable weather across Taiwan today, with rain in mountainous areas. Weather will become more stable tomorrow, just in time for work.
Typhoon Malakas has moved north, so that Taiwan is now out of the direct storm system. The Central Weather Bureau lifted the land warning at 2:30 am this morning. The eye is currently located over the sea to the northeast of Taiwan moving at 13 kilometers an hour to the north-northeast. It will gradually turn northeast and move towards Japan. The CWB says that Taiwan will still be affected by the outer storm system and weather across the whole island will be unstable. Mountain regions to the north of Chiayi and the Tainan area will be affected by heavy rain.

The CWB has issued heavy rain warnings extending from New Taipei City mountain areas to Miaoli mountain areas where there will be heavy localised rain showers. In the afternoon Hualien and Taitung will have heavier rain and we ask the public to take precautions.
With the impact of Typhoon Malakas over the past two days, Youkeng in Taipei City's Beitou district amassed 370 millimeters of rainfall, the most in Taiwan. Zhuhu, also in Beitou, and Yangminshan all had around 300 millimeters of rain. In the south, Chiayi's mountain districts had over 250 millimeters of rain over consecutive days. The CWB warned against collapsing embankments, rockslides and mudslides. Along coastal areas there are still strong winds and high waves and the public should avoid beaches.

Before the typhoon has completely moved away we remind the public that there are still strong gusts of wind along coastal areas and heavy rain inland.
The CWB estimates that weather will stabilise on Monday. However, for the next few days, there will be a strong northeast wind and there will be showers in the east and north of the island. The CWB predicts that the typhoon will weaken as it moves north and the marine warning for Taiwan will be lifted this morning.
