Rescue drill in demolished school gives Fire Dept. much experience / 借待拆舊校舍 台南消防演練樓塌救災　　　　　　　　　　

Usually, there's not much that one can do with the rubble of a building that has just been demolished, but recently, the Tainan Fire Department came up with a brilliant idea. They ran earthquake rescue drills amid the ruins of a newly demolished school, and the simulation was very realistic. The drill went on for 48 hours nonstop, and all participating rescue workers said they have gained a lot from the experience. The building collapsed within seconds. This is Jing-cheng Junior High School's old building which is to be demolished. Tainan City Fire Bureau used this field to simulate an earthquake scene for a 48-hour drill. The scene was simulated as the collapsed Wei-kuan Building from the earthquake occurred in February this year. ==LI CHUN-SHENG, Guider of Rescue Dogs== This simulated field allows rescue dogs to get acquainted. Actually, our working sites vary, many different spots, some are dangerous. The rescue dogs need to familiar with these varieties. ==LIN YU-SHUO, Leader of Tainan Search Rescue Special Squad== Regarding the earthquake disaster, our actual mission is conducted at mostly a place like this. Not to mention it should be exactly the same, but it should be at least 90% alike. Therefore this simulated field is indeed very rare. Two adults and two children were trapped inside of the collapsed building. Rescuers and dogs were searching for survivors. This is a drill that has never been like this real. Taichung and Chiayi fire bureaus and the army special force all dispatched personnel to participate in the drill. ==SANG CHI-LUN, Head of Tainan Search Rescue Special Squad== With any injury or whatever, it will cause the contractor facing safety issues. Therefore, this simulated field is rare to us, and yes indeed. The contractor stopped their usual works for us to practice in the drill. Tainan Fire Bureau said they had taken precautions for this 48-hour nonstop drill. They hope to learn more rescue skills and self-protection for achieving more effective rescues.
