Myanmar state counselor and foreign minister Aung San Suu Kyi paid her 5-day visit to China on August 18th. She expressed her resolution to rebuild relations with China. The resumption of the Myitsone Dam will be a priority, and Aung San Suu Kyi also seeks China's cooperation in her talks with armed ethnic minority groups along Myanmar's borders with China. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang held a welcoming ceremony for Aung San Suu Kyi at the Great Hall of the People. This is the first visit paid by Myanmar's high official since the new government took office on April 1st. In 2011, Chinese government was to invest US$3.6 billion in constructing Myitsone Dam in northern Myanmar. However, it was barred by environmentalists and has made relations of the two countries stalled. Many speculate that Aung San Suu Kyi's five-day visit is to seek for more financial supports and investments from China. ==LIU ZHENMIN, Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs== Premier Li Keqiang told State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi that China hopes the new Myanmar government appropriately handles and looks for a resolution to the Myitsone Dam issue. Aung San Suu Kyi said that the Myanmar government has already set up an investigation committee to look for an appropriate resolution to the Myitsone Dam issue. Also, Aung San Suu Kyi needs China's cooperation in talks with Myanmar's armed minority groups along northern borders with China, in hope to end the long armed standoff since Myanmar's independence. Myanmar has 2,200-kilometer border with China, the settlement with armed ethnic groups can achieve regional peace. China said it will enforce strategic cooperation projects such as transborder oil pipelines and hydropower dam. And Aung San Suu Kyi emphasized her willingness to find a resolution that suits the interests of ASEAN and China. The two sides signed memorandum on transnational cooperation. Aung San Suu Kyi is to meet Chinese President Xi jin-ping on August 20th.
