In women's 5000 meter on August 16th, American runner D'Agostino and New Zealander Hamblin stumbled with around 2000 meters to go, sending both sprawling to the ground. As D'Agostino lay on the track distraught, her ankle sprained, Hamblin tenderly helped her to her feet and the two helped each other finish the race, demonstrating the olympic spirit at its best and moving thousands of audience in the arena. While the two finished the last, Olympic organizers said that both of them had been advanced to the final on Friday. In sailing's Nacra 17 mixed category, Argentine Santiago Lange, who was competing in his sixth Olympic Games, took home the gold medal with his partner Cecilia Carranza. The 54-year-old was diagnosed with cancer and lost his left lung just last year. Yet he conquered his ailment, demonstrating great determination. His age also made him the oldest gold medalist in this year's olympics so far. In men's three meter springboard diving, Russian diver Ilya Zakharov was eliminated at the semi-final stage after a spectacularly poor bellyflop, leaving Britain's 21-year-old Jack Laugher and China's Cao Yuan in a tight showdown. Cao finally won the event with consistently sterling performance and gave his dominant Chinese team its fifth diving gold medal of the Games.
