A car caught on fire when stopped at a red light in Taoyuan on Feb. 3, with a number of explosions being heard. the driver and the passenger, luckily, were not hurt as they left the car after noticing visible emissions from the engine.
“You are…move this way a little. Move this way a little. Stand to the side.”A car is burning on the road. From time to time, explosions can be heard. At 4:30 a.m. on the 3rd, a police patrol called in the incident and asked for traffic police to be sent to the scene along with firefighters. As this was very early in the morning, the officers were worried that cars traveling at higher speeds wouldn't be able to stop in time.
“Step farther away. Step farther away. Step farther away. Be careful. There are explosions.”According to sources, the owner of the car, a 21-year-old man surnamed Cheng, was taking his girlfriend home and waiting at a stoplight on Taoyuan's Daxing West Road Section 3 when his car suddenly started smoking. He and his girlfriend immediately got out of the car and ran to a safe distance. The car subsequently caught fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Lin Tzu-chieh, Deputy Captain, Puzi Police Station: “Officers that were patrolling saw a burning car on the road. Fortunately, the driver and his passenger were able to escape without injury. We immediately closed the road for safety.”
Police say the fire was extinguished around 5 a.m. and the road was reopened in around an hour.

「站遠一點、站遠一點、站遠一點!小心喔,那一直爆炸。 」據了解,21歲鄭姓駕駛是要送女友回家,在桃園區大興西路三段停等紅燈時車輛突然冒煙,兩人立即下車逃生,車輛隨即起火,幸好無人受傷。
桃園分局埔子所副所長林子傑說:「員警巡邏發現車道上有車輛起火燃燒,所幸駕駛人及乘客已及時逃生未受傷,員警立即進行路段封鎖,以維護行車安全。」
警方表示,火勢在5點左右撲滅,整起火燒車事故歷時約1小時排除、恢復交通順暢。
