Sun Yat-sen School President Chang Yia-chung announced he is running for president and will seek the KMT's nomination. New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih, who is regarded as one of the frontrunners for the nomination, said that anyone who is willing to work for the country and the people deserves affirmation.

Sun Yat-sen School President Chang Yia-chung announced his intent to seek the KMT's nomination for the 2024 presidential election on Jan. 11. He said he will use the 1992 Consensus as the foundation for Taiwan's international positioning, and he would like to turn Taiwan into a global, non-war peace zone.
Chang Yia-chung, President, Sun Yat-sen School: “I pledge that Taiwan will not become a hedgehog island and I reject outside manipulation. There's no need to spend huge sums of money to purchase unnecessary military equipment. Youths shouldn't have to go to war.”
Potential KMT candidates for the 2024 presidential election include New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih, who has the highest approval rating, KMT Chairperson Eric Chu, Hon Hai founder Terry Gou, and Broadcasting Corporation of China Chairperson Jaw Shaw-kong, who has already announced he will seek the KMT's nomination. Chu has not said when the party will hold the primary, and right now its focus is on the Nantou County legislative by-election.
Eric Chu, Chairperson, KMT: “Right now, the entire party is focused on the Mar. 4 by-election. The KMT is taking one step at a time. We're not like the DPP with its unlimited administrative resources. We need to continue down the correct path and nominate the correct candidate. We need to be united to win.”
Hou Yu-ih, Mayor, New Taipei City: “I think it's always positive when someone is willing to work hard for the Republic of China and the people, and this deserves affirmation.”
Hou is regarded as a frontrunner, but he said he's the mayor of New Taipei City and he and his municipal team are working hard for the city.

備戰2024，國民黨會推派誰參加總統大選？目前檯面上的熱門人選除了民調最高的新北市長侯友宜，以及國民黨主席朱立倫、鴻海創辦人郭台銘，還有先前曾表態的中廣董事長趙少康。至於何時舉辦黨內初選？朱立倫僅表示，目前最重要的事就是全力輔選南投立委補選。
國民黨主席朱立倫指出：「目前全黨都在專心的為3月4號的補選，我們國民黨是一步一腳印，我們不像民進黨有無限的行政資源，繼續走對的路、提對的人，我們團結一致，才能夠團結勝選。」
新北市長侯友宜則回應：「願意為中華民國，為國、為民努力的做事，我相信這個都是一個正向，值得肯定。」
而頻頻被點名的侯友宜也再次重申，自己現在是新北市長，新北市所有團隊都會齊心齊力為新北好好做事。
