The business sector is calling the government to open up the borders so travellers can enter Taiwan for the sake of people's livelihoods. Premier Su Tseng-chang said that as long as the general public fulfills their vaccine requirements, the government will assess changes in the epidemic and gradually ease border controls.
Hsu Shu-po, Chair, General Chamber and Commerce of the ROC: “Should open up borders soon. There is really no difference between the end of September and October. What is the point of fixating on 10 or 5 days?”
General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China once again called on the government to open up borders and restored the economy to normal. The chair of ROCCOC Hsu Shu-po said that while the whole world co-exists with the virus, Taiwan is somehow going backward, still enforcing the "3+4" quarantine policy. The business sector suggested that the government should publicize the time to open up borders soon and increase tourist consumption in Taiwan as this wave of BA.5 resulted in a low severe COVID case rate and domestic medical capacity can handle it.
Hsu Shu-po, Chair, General Chamber and Commerce of the ROC: “Stop blocking out the rest of the world or think opening up borders is a huge benefit. No, you must restore all sectors to live normally. Your taxes can then be completed and you can then support your defense budget.”
As the domestic COVID-19 epidemic continues, Premier Su Tseng-chang received his second booster shot of the Medigen vaccine at National Taiwan University Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 21, showcasing his support for the domestic vaccine. Meanwhile, Su said that as long as the general public fulfills their vaccine requirements, the government will assess epidemic changes and embark on the road to opening up borders.
Su Tseng-chang, Premier: “We will consider all situations, discuss them among all the departments, confirm then announce in advance.”
Su emphasized that COVID-19 prevention work has come to the final phase, hoping the epidemic can pass quickly. The government will assess the pandemic situation globally and within the nation. After the discussion by cross-departments, the government would make an announcement earlier than scheduled and allow all sectors to have enough time to respond and prepare.
